Background
Dr. Maurílio Mendes graduated in Medicine from Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ, 2009), ranked first in the entrance examination to the orthopedic residency at Hospital Universitário Clementino Fraga Filho (UFRJ, 2010–2012). He then won a competitive entrance to the bone reconstruction and lengthening specialization at INTO — the national reference centre — in 2013, and subsequently completed a foot-and-ankle fellowship at Hospital Municipal Lourenço Jorge (2016). He attended an international deformity correction course in Hull, England (2017) and presented at a congress in Portugal (2018). He won the best scientific presentation award at the XIV Brazilian Congress on Bone Reconstruction and Lengthening (2017) for a technique he personally developed. Currently he coordinates the bone reconstruction and lengthening group at Hospital Estadual da Criança and remains active at INTO.
